Just leave it alone
I did yet another web site tweak. Well, a bit more than a tweak. In the end, I’ve squashed the last of the drop shadow bugs, and I’ve changed the font and whitespace slightly. Hope you like it…
I ended up re-writing all the HTML, CSS and Javascript for Flannel. Sheesh. You’d think I’d leave well enough alone. However, I did figure out the last of the CSS drop shadow bugs! It turns out that it was quite possible to make this work with DOCTYPE of “Strict”, and that makes me feel quite a bit better. Amusingly, all three main browsers (IE 6, Firefox, and Safari) all had different bugs that had to be coded into the JavaScript… But they were minor margin offset tweaks for the lower graphics.
I am still promising to write up something describing this technique… really…. But that nasty working for a living is getting in the way, as usual.
In any case, if you’re interested in taking a peek at the README file for Flannel v1.11, feel free – it has some more information about the theme.
Oh, and the usual caveat applies with any style change. You may have to reload a page or two to make the new style appear in your browser.
Of course, the amusing thing is that the new version of RapidWeaver will have drop shadows built in… all this work may be for naught. But, the new release is probably a month or two away, and I may not be that interested in the style of the drop shadows it produces (I like the little photo border that I use – not sure if the new version will have an option for a white border, then a drop shadow).
In any event, it’s been a really fun hack. As a nice side effect, my CSS skills are pretty decent now, and I’ve learned JavaScript (which I didn’t know how to program in a couple of weeks ago). I’m just such a nerd, sometimes…
