My brain I.B.M.
I received a real honour yesterday. The Toronto Image Works asked me to select five of my favourite images that I’ve made with my 20D. They are choosing one for display at an open house there at the end of this month. And, I get a copy of the print too. Pretty sweet.
Mercifully, work is progressing reasonably well. This weekend is the production promotion of the tricky bit. I have to do some database schema surgery for the upgrade, but then it’s done. I’ll be interleaving that with finishing off development and testing of another piece, and then I think I can get back to just being management again for the run-up to the completion of the project at the end of October (which means mostly attending meetings and fretting over silly details).
So if you see me acting strangely, don’t be surprised

And after that, I’m going to take a break and work on my Pennsylvania Coal Breaker pictures. Nic and I are planning on revisiting the site in mid-October, and I have a number of ideas and techniques I want to try. Can’t wait.
Speaking of Nic, he’s willing to buy my 20D if I’m going to upgrade to a 5D. I’m thinking hard about this. The major improvement is that the 5D has a full-frame 35mm sensor rather than the APS-C sensor in the 20D (means that the cropping is less on the 5D). Other than less cropping of the image, the quality is approximately the same. It’s a pretty hefty price tag for what I’m considering only an incremental improvement. All said and done, it’ll run me $4,300 (including tax) to upgrade. Do I really need to spend that much for less cropping? Brain sez no, heart sez yes. We’ll see who wins the battle.
Anyway, I gots me some work to do. Back to the grind.
